Homemade pie and sunshine

It's a glorious day today and it's actually warm enough to have lunch in the park for the first time this year. In the interests of saving a few pennies I'm trying to pack my own lunch most days, rather than paying City prices for food. Hopefully it'll be healthier too. Today's lunch is the result of my first baking spree in May Cottage - chicken, bacon and dill pie made from leftover bit and bobs. There's something very conforting about creamy sauce and soft, crumbly pastry.

Before I started baking I totally forgot that I didn't have a rolling pin but it turns out glass jars work pretty well for small amounts of pastry. And I finally got to use the cute little individual pie tins I bought about a year ago and put away for far too long, as they arrived in my kitchen in a carrier bag with my other baking tins.

Sixeen days ago I moved into May Cottage with nothing but two cardboard boxes of clothes and two of my adorable daughters. Our new home is a rented Victorian semi in suburbia and it's very different from the place I spent the last 16 years of my life. Right now our house is empty, impersonal and sterile, but it feels like it will be a great home once we settle in.

I'm looking forwards to baking and sewing again.
I'm looking forwards to finding this little house's personality and mixing that with our own loves and idiosyncrasies.
Most of all I'm just looking forwards to life.
